Connecting People In A Global World Is A Forward Step In Combating Global Issues Like Poverty And Hunger

Introduction:
We are growing and the world is developing and ways of learning are changing constantly. Did you know that change is constant? Well it is. We are living a change everyday even if can’ notice it. Our world is developing quickly and life in the 21st century is totally different from life before. That means that the way we learn is also changing. These changes are all very big changes but we have learned how to cope with them.
As part of our new learning environment we, in grade 10 VISS, are going to chose a focus question and write an essay discussing it and then we post it on our own blogger (mine is http://hayamportfolio.blogspot.com/ I would love you to visit it and write your own comments on my work!!!!!) and also post it on INET (http://www.ssat-inet.net/ ). This is pretty hard work especially since we didn’t have enough time but as part of the new learning technique I have to learn to organize my time and meet my dead line. Anyway, my focus question is: connecting people in a global world is a forward step in combating global issues like poverty and hunger. I strongly believe that we people are far from fair. We are cruel and heartless and selfish and……….. The list never ends. Some of us however are not this kind of people. Some of us are fair and kind and thoughtful. Some of us are always helping others in poor countries like Africa. I am also determined to help these poor people and I will. Some people are already working hard. In the following paragraphs, I will talk about people who started taking action when they were young learners like us. I am sorry if I don’t mention all of the people who are fighting poverty and hunger but again, I will be talking about young learners only and not everyone or then you will just get too bored and close the window.
Discussion of Findings:
Ryan Hreljak is now 17 years old. When he was six in grade 1 his geography teacher told him and his class that a lot people don’t have any clean water to drink. Ryan was determined to help these people and by the age of 7, the first well was built in a village in Uganda. Ryan collected the money needed by washing cars and doing some household chores. I find it really amazing that someone so young could act so maturely. (http://www.ryanswell.ca/)
Another example is Hugh Evans. Hugh is now 25 years old. He was just 14 years old when he began his humanitarian work, travelling to the Philippines as an ambassador for World Vision. Sleeping in slums of manila and studying in India ignited Hugh’s ambition to help the poor people in the world. Hugh implemented building projects while caring for a number of orphaned children affected by aids. Hugh became founder and director of the Oaktree Foundation. Hugh set up the first Oaktree project in South Africa's Kwa-Zulu-Natal province: a community resource centre that now provides more than a thousand people with the opportunity to receive education for the first time in their lives. In Ghana, West Africa, Hugh helped develop a project focusing on releasing young women from slavery and providing them with educational opportunities in partnership with International Needs.
Since 2003 development projects funded by Oaktree have also been established in The Philippines, Papua New Guinea, India and East Timor, providing educational opportunities to more than 40,000 young people. Hugh also helped co-ordinate an emergency relief operation when the Boxing Day tsunami struck in 2004.
In 2008 Hugh stepped down from Oaktree and was soon charged with the responsibility of becoming the Co-Chair of the inaugural Youth 2020 Summit in Canberra. In 2004 the Australia Day Council awarded Hugh the prestigious title: Young Australian of the Year. In 2005, Hugh's humanitarian work was recognized on a global scale, named the Junior Chamber Young Person of the World Award. In 2006 Hugh was the recipient of the 'Free Your Mind' award. Conclusion:
We all live on the same earth so we all have a right to use its resources without paying any price. It doesn’t matter if we are Americans or Africans. It doesn’t matter if we are white or black. There should be nothing to separate us and make hatred and war between us. We should all be one hand and no matter what, nothing should make this hand split into many smaller weaker hands.
There are just so many people that fought poverty all over the world, and I would like to thank them from all my heart for taking a forward step and setting a good example for many others.
